Despite the fact that Ireland has one of the strongest independent and specialist wine shop sectors in Europe, the cold hard facts are that we still buy around half of our wine in supermarkets and convenience stores.

That’s not to say that we, as consumers, don’t expect a lot more from our supermarkets than we used to. We want traceability, natural production, organics and all manner of other things, whether we’re buying chablis, beer, knitwear...
