This exquisite performance, delivered in traditional Russian style, was mesmerising, having just about everything that could be wished for had it been taking place in the Mariinsky Theatre itself.

Not the least of its attractions was an awesome stage setting – particularly for a touring group that has to lug it about – and perfect orchestral pitch that washed dream-like across the story, particularly in the early stages.
