Siberian touch for Berlin Phil
Russian conductor Kirill Petrenko has been named as the new chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic – but he won’t be taking up the post until 2018, when Simon Rattle will step down.
Born in the Siberian city of Omsk, Petrenko (43) was ecstatic at the announcement. He is currently artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera.
