Despite its inauspicious beginnings, the first-generation BMW X1 became something of a sales hit for the German marque. It was launched in 2009, as the SUV and crossover boom was in its first flourishes, with the ‘baby’ high-riding Beemer built from a cobbled-together collection of bits including a 3 Series Touring platform and engines from the 1 Series range.
