Return of the Feis Ceoil, launch pad for our bright young stars

The ESB Feis Ceoil is back. That may not raise many eyebrows, as this annual event has been on the go for 119 years and is the bedrock of Irish classical music.

13th March, 2015
The ESB Feis Ceoil includes over 180 competitions covering all ages from seven upwards

What remains surprising, though, is the unwavering enthusiasm and excitement that Feis Ceoil generates. There are entries this year from all 32 counties, comprising more than 5,000 competitors.

The Feis Ceoil’s record requires little telling. Yes, John McCormack did win gold, but James Joyce did not – but what is true is that the benefits and achievements the Feis has brought to us in a music sense is really only part of its blessings.
