The 20-year-old flautist Miriam Kaczor set the hall alight with the warmth and fluidity of her playing when becoming last year’s Irish Freemasons’ Young Musician of the Year. Her joy was twofold. Apart from receiving a €5,000 prize, she also became the first female winner in the six-year history of a competition that has progressively stamped its quality on Ireland’s music scene.
