Speaking of Handel, the majestic Long Gallery at Castletown House in Celbridge, Co Kildare, will come alive in glorious style with a special performance of the Messiah on Saturday, April 7, at 7.30pm. The occasion recalls the fact that the lady of the house, Catherine Connolly, had tickets for the famous premiere in Fishamble Street in April 1743 but, alas, didn’t make it.
