Drug scandals have robbed the Olympics of a lot of its old lustre, and there seem few ready-made replacements for the heroes of yesteryear

Summer has arrived, and with it come thoughts of lazy days of watching sport on TV. Some of you will probably remember the 1984 Olympic Games. They were in Los Angeles that year, and Carl Lewis of the US was the king of track and field.

He ended up with four gold medals, for the 100 metres, 200 metres, relay and long jump events. He was tall and handsome, with a distinctive flat-top haircut.
