Lanzarote: an island idyll

Susan Morrell travelled to a remote area of Lanzarote for amid-pregnancy ‘babymoon’ and was left enchanted by the island’s beguiling sense of calm

The scene is like something out of a dream. To my left, waves crash in a spray of blue and frothy white far below the steep rocky cliff that holds up my walking path.

To my right, a moon-like landscape stretches to the horizon, as oddly shaped hills rise in the distance and all around the land is flooded with a glorious midday light. There’s no one around.
