I have no idea who came up with the name “contemporary music”, but it’s not very effective, is it? And the “new music” moniker is not much better – worse, in fact. The problem is that the ‘contemporary’ and ‘new’ of the 1920s are clearly outdated beyond recognition in the frenzied world of a century later.
