When Tom Monaghan, a farmer’s son from Tuam Co Galway, started his cashmere shop in Dublin, a ladies’ twinset cost 5 pounds 5 shillings. Fifty years later it costs €300. One of seven children, Monaghan was raised by his mother after his father died aged only 51.
