What’s your earliest memory?
When I was about three, my mother used to show the horses and the elephants. She would wear ballgowns and I thought she was a vision. She kept sugarlumps in this vintage beaded bag which she would pin to her dress; my job was to carry the bag. I’m also told that I was in the ring in a basket with an elephant at 18 months.
