My best festival experience was Listowel Writers Week 2013. I won the Kerry Group Fiction Prize at that, so I was spoilt by the organisers. They put me up in a suite at the Listowel Arms, which was without doubt the poshest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. Also, I had some magical nights in John B Keane’s bar.

This year, I’ll be taking part in the Earagail Arts Festival (July 10-26)...
