Feis Ceoil: a big event with little surprise

A new exhibition is being held in the Little Museum of Dublin on St Stephen’s Green

Despite the problems in the city, the Feis Ceoil of 1916 eventually went ahead in July when relative calm was restored. In fact, the only year that it was abandoned was 2001, when the foot-and-mouth crisis brought normal life to a standstill.

The support for the Feis has always been steadfast, and last year more than 5,000 competitors took part. Entries are about the same this year, and the first of its almost 200 competitions began yesterday...
