‘That one’s the Trump Tower,” yells our tour guide over the noise of the speedboat engine, as we make an unconventional approach towards the striking Chicago skyline from Lake Michigan. He’s a good looking, all-American boy of no more than 18, with a toothy smile and a sharp wit.

“You can tell because of the dark clouds hovering overhead,” he deadpans. We duly tip him when the trip is over...
