Erraught comes home with a cutting-edge Barber

Soprano Tara Erraught is to perform as Rosina in the Barber of Seville at the Bord Gais Theatre

A few weeks ago, strollers along Westmoreland Street were treated to an operatic outburst from underneath somewhere. Figaro had just appeared in a downstairs barber shop – a hairdressing salon, you understand – and was singing a full-blooded version of his giddy job-description from Rossini’s famous masterpiece.

The singer was Kerry-born baritone Gavan Ring, and his powerful and magnetic delivery carried up the stairs from the Waldorf through an authentic waft of shaving...
