The BMW M5 is a beefed-up update of what was already a powerful car

It’s quite a statement to say that the engine under the bonnet is not the most conversation-worthy thing about the 2018 BMW M5.

Sure, it’s based on the previous M5’s unit, but it’s still a twin-turbocharged V8 of 4.4-litre capacity and maximum outputs have been increased substantially. Peak power is now 600hp. The most important number from a daily driving point of view, the torque produced, plateaus at a substantial 750Nm from just 1,800rpm...
