Designer Guo Pei is one of China’s most famous couture designers, with a celebrity client list as large as her burgeoning staff of embroiderers, pattern cutters and seamstresses. Still, until earlier this year she was a relative unknown on the international fashion scene – that is, until a western pop star decided to don a 55 pound yellow cape.
