It was invented in 1880 in the Cognac region by one Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, whose second name his family now uses in their second life as owners of one of Chile’s most fashionable high-end wine producers. The family took the vast fortune that Grand Marnier made and invested it in horses and wine across South America.
