When the Alexandra cocktail featured on the TV series of Brideshead Revisited, it reignited the entire cocktail genre after its 1970s slump into Tiki Hell (a period where any spirit mixed with the contents of a fruit basket, an umbrella and an irradiated cherry, qualified as cocktail sophistication).

The cocktail was invented in 1922 for the marriage of Princess Mary Alexandra, daughter of King George V. In the US, it was termed the Brandy Alexander.
