Bite Size: Irish Atlantic Canned Fish

Some good sourdough bread topped with this mackerel caught off the coast of Dungloe in Co Donegal, then canned by the Bonner family in the country’s only fish canning facility, would make a pretty good picnic lunch in my book.

There are a few varieties, including smoked mackerel in either brine or tomato sauce, and peppered smoked mackerel in sunflower oil. Keep an eye out for them in selected supermarkets as well as in Fallon & Byrne, priced from €2.65 to €3.25.
