Author Harper Lee dies aged 89

To Kill a Mockingbird became a defining text on America's deep south

The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, has died aged 89.

Lee had lived for several years in a nursing home less than a mile from the house in which she grew up in Monroeville, Alabama.
