A quick primer re-establishes the franchises basic schematic, and its fondness for obscure words: there’s Abnegation (selflessness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), Amity (peacefulness) and Erudite (intelligence). Each faction lives in its own appropriate community; a hand-made farm for Amity, a shiny skyscraper for Erudite. Tattooed Tris is “divergent”, which means that genetically she’s got a little bit of everything and so is fated to become an outlaw in a police state....
