Le Pas de Chavanette, also known as the Swiss Wall

I stick my head over the powdered white edge. A morning of skiing at the eastern French resort of Morzine has brought me 2,151 metres up to Le Pas de Chavanette, also known as the Swiss Wall. Thin red netting separates me from a 50-metre vertical slope with a 40-degree inclination. The slope is packed with an uncomfortable number of moguls (a series of bumps).

The path, which I see being traversed by some brave skiers...
