A familiar father figure

Becoming ‘the most quoted Irish dad in history’ is a big job for Simon Delaney, but he feels at home playing Jimmy Rabbitte sr at the Gate’s new production of The Snapper.

Simon Delaney is nervous. The well-known actor and TV presenter has just stepped out of rehearsals, a few hours away from opening night at the Gate, where he’s starring as Jimmy Rabbitte sr in Roddy Doyle’s The Snapper.

“It’s always good to be nervous,” he says. “It creates a bit of energy. They’re big shoes to fill, but I’ve big feet.”
