It is 1919. Germany is in freefall after the loss of World War I and the collapse of its monarchy. There is spiralling inflation, as well as food shortages. A young soldier named Adolf Hitler is recruited to work for the information office of the military administration, to gather intelligence on political movements potentially hostile to the Bavarian authorities. While in training, he makes his first anti-Semitic speech, in Lechfeld near Munich.
