The Xtra-vision store in Skerries, Co Dublin, a long-time teenage hangout and source of part-time work, shut its doors after three decades last week.

Within 48 hours, a high-tech Xtra-vision-branded DVD dispensing machine appeared between the sweets counter and the wine rack in a supermarket around the corner. Put your credit card in, make your selection and your disc pops out.
