For many drivers, the first thing they think of when it comes to motor insurance is the cost of it. Not surprising, when you consider the 70 per cent hike in car insurance costs between January 2014 and July 2016.

But how many motorists could pinpoint who regulates their insurer?

The insurance industry, and the regulation of it, was in the spotlight last week, with a Fianna Fáil motion on the regulation of overseas insurance providers.
