Last Wednesday, the FAI announced the creation of a fund worth €300,000 to help clubs experiencing difficulty in meeting contractual obligations to professional players. This follows the crises that have threatened the futures of Limerick FC and, in particular, Bray Wanderers FC.

It amounted to a somewhat noble aspiration, at least when it comes to the FAI, which in 2015 had an Aviva Stadium-related debt of more than €50 million that has stymied the organisation...
