As tobacco companies brace for a ban on branded packaging, will ambient advertising replace traditional tobacco marketing? Leanna Byrne reports
The American rapper Kreayshawn’s hands flail around in her music video for the track Gucci Gucci, which has been viewed 50.6 million times. Clasped in her hands is a packet of Camel cigarettes. For just a moment, the package becomes the focal point. She waves it twice towards the camera so the audience get a glimpse of the logo. The message is clear: smoking is cool.
