It's been a tough and brutally long transition for the competition that began life as the Inter City Fairs Cup. When what was then the UEFA Cup absorbed the Cup Winners Cup at the end of the 1998/1999 season, it began a brilliant era for the competition but erosion in quality, due to the expansion of the Champions League, made for a decade long struggle to return to relevance.

EY reports €393m revenues in Republic of Ireland for 2021 financial year
Revenues in the Republic increased 9.5 per cent for the year up to June 2021 to €393 million, up from €359 million in the previous year
