It was Sean Dunne on the landline in the newsroom of the Irish Independent. It was July 27, 2005 and the Carlow developer had just pulled off what at the time was his most audacious ever deal. Dunne’s construction company Mountbrook Homes had just spent €260 million acquiring 4.85 acres in Ballsbridge in Dublin 4 from the hotel group Jurys Doyle.
