Don Panoz made an indelible impact on Irish business. When Panoz and his wife Nancy came to Ireland in 1969 nobody would have believed that it was possible to build a global pharmaceutical company from scratch in Athlone.

Panoz, however, had an indefatigable determination to succeed. He led Elan to become the first Irish company to list on the Nasdaq before taking it to full public listings in New York, London and Dublin.
