The billionaire Barclay brothers sought to intervene and influence the Irish government and Nama as part of their effort to take control of the Maybourne luxury hotel group in London, new documents obtained by this newspaper reveal.
The brothers, along with the wealthy and influential prime minister of Qatar, lobbied Brian Lenihan, the then finance minister, as they sought to buy debt linked to shareholders in the group, Paddy McKillen and Derek Quinlan.
