Last Tuesday, at the opening night of The Gigli Concert at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, a photographer approached Michael Colgan to tentatively ask for a picture of him and Tom Murphy.

Before flashing bulbs, the artistic director of the Gate Theatre and the renowned Gigli Concert playwright shook hands: a gesture that, for both men, was highly symbolic, coming in the wake of a disagreement that has become the stuff of legend.
