Throughout the last week, FAI investigators have been talking to officials and players at Athlone Town FC.

This was as a result of evidence provided by Uefa with regard to unusual betting patterns emanating from Asia on a match being played in the SSE Airtricity League.

In a statement issued by the club, it stated that it was “absolutely shocked . . . The club absolutely abhors match fixing and would never knowingly get involved...
