NUI Galway in the picture over smartphone camera project

NUI Galway has secured €750,000 in funding from imagining analytics company FotoNation to support research into smartphone camera technology.

The €1.5 million project, which will take place over four years, will investigate the technical challenges impeding smartphone photo quality and will be undertaken by six PhD and three postdoctoral researchers.

Petronel Bigioi, general manager of FotoNation, said more than two billion digital cameras and smartphone devices used imaging technologies developed by the US firm.
