In July 2013, Marissa Carter, the founder of the tanning company Cocoa Brown, discovered first-hand what it was to live the American dream.
Carter had made a last-minute decision to fly to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the cosmetics trade show Cosmoprof North America (she got wind of it on a Friday, and was in Vegas by Sunday) to sit front row at the talks hosted by retail behemoths such as Walgreens, Macy’s and Walmart.
