Mycro Sportsgear, an Irish-owned sports equipment company, has developed a synthetic alternative to the traditional hurley, in response to the dieback disease (Chalara) threatening the native ash population.

The Cork firm launched its Evolution hurley earlier this month at the National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore in Co Offaly.
