The Croatian island of Hvar is among the most beautiful in the Adriatic sea. Its sparkling port below a 16th-century Venetian-era hilltop castle is where Michael Smurfit was moored last Wednesday.

He is on board a yacht hired to bring him and his family to Corfu, the Greek island in the Ionian Sea, to celebrate his 80th birthday today. “I am celebrating my second 40th!” Smurfit says.
