Mercosur holds ‘no pot of gold’ for the Irish dairy sector

The Mercosur trade deal may include quotas for products including cheese and milk powders, but “there is no pot of gold there” for the Irish dairy sector, according to the chief executive of Ornua, the makers of Kerrygold.

Both the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed, and Ireland’s EU commissioner, Phil Hogan, made reference to possible opportunities for Irish dairy as the controversy around the deal intensified last week.
