A new credit register governed by the Central Bank goes live in January. But what will it mean for lenders?
For more than 50 years, since 1963 to be exact, the Irish Credit Bureau (ICB) has played a crucial role behind the scenes on whether a financial institution is likely to give you a car loan, a credit card, a mortgage, or most other forms of credit for that matter. To date, it has had a near-monopoly on providing credit information about individuals. Experian and StubbsGazette only carry out credit reviews of businesses.
