John Corcoran, a betting behemoth who saw the future

Paddy Power co-founder John Corcoran, who died last week, had the vision to realise the internet’s potential as a massive profit-driver for his company

It would be hard to find a champion racehorse owner who prefers to spend the Cheltenham Festival in the office, but John Corcoran was that owner.

David Power, who co-founded Paddy Power along with Stewart Kenny and Corcoran in 1988, said the Wexford man loved the excitement of being in the trading room of the bookie’s headquarters during big events.
