IRFU: new drinks law will hit Rugby World Cup bid

The IRFU warned ministers that banning sports sponsorship by drinks companies would damage its bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The rugby organisation said that a ban would act as a major impediment to its ability to mount a credible bid for major international events, adding that it would put the IRFU at a commercial and competitive disadvantage to fellow bidders.
