Cartoon Saloons The Breadwinner, based on Deborah Ellis novel, is in production now

Oscar-nominated animation company Cartoon Saloon has gone into production with its latest feature film, The Breadwinner.

Based on the novel by Deborah Ellis, which tells the story of a girl living under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, the hand-drawn film will be directed by Nora Twomey, a co-founder of the Kilkenny-based studio. Angelina Jolie Pitt is an executive producer. She funds a girls’ school in Afghanistan and her own children have read The Breadwinner.
