Former government press secretary defends hiring of journalists

Former government press secretary Feargal Purcell says ministers need a variety of skills around them, not just former journalists

The Fine Gael government has hired six journalists as government advisers in the last year alone.

“Why not get people who know how it works?” he said.

However, Purcell said that a former journalist alone is not enough for ministers in terms of advisors, and that they need a variety of skills around them.
