Fewer than half of all workers have a pension

The proportion of workers with a pension fell to 47% in late-2015 from 51% in 2009

More than a third of workers expect the state pension to be their main source of income

Pension coverage remained lowest among younger workers with just 14 per cent of those aged 20 to 24 having a pension compared to 55 per cent of those aged between 35 and 44, where pension coverage was at the highest.

Among men, it was at 47 per cent, down from 53 per cent six years earlier, while pension coverage among women fell to 46 per cent from 49 per cent.
