The Dublin to Galway cycleway was proposed by former transport minister Leo Varadkar and is based on the Great Western Greenway cycle route in Mayo

A planned coast-to-coast 276 kilometre Dublin to Galway cycleway could be cut short in Athlone by farmers’ objections.

He said that farmers are objecting to splitting and disrupting their land because it would mean extra costs.
