This week, Irish American ‘Cable King’ John Malone became a major shareholder in a bitter rival of Denis O’Brien’s Digicel empire.

Malone’s Liberty Media group, which owns UPC in Ireland, has taken a substantial stake in Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) following CWC’s $1.85 billion acquisition of Columbus, a Bahamas-based business in which both Liberty and Malone are significant shareholders.
