EU clears Microsoft's LinkedIn takeover

Software giant's pledges prevent longer competition probe

Microsoft’s promises removed any worries that the company might use the deal to squeeze out rival services, the European Commission said in a statement. The EU cleared the transaction without opening a lengthy investigation of at least four months that would have delayed Microsoft’s plans to close the deal this year.
